12.11.2010: Precise profiling of Apple Displays for Color and Brightness

 

Optimized image editing requires both monitor accuracy and print condition soft proofing. Accuracy requires both controlled white point and also specific brightness calibration.

A fine balance must be achieved between ambient lighting, monitor brightness and contrast. This is complicated by the dynamic improvements in monitor brilliance and brightness, where matching to a print condition becomes even more dependent upon the correct display constraints and calibration accuracy.

To meet this challenge, basICColor display now has a new hardware brightness calibration routine for Apple displays, as well as iMacs and MacBooks. This solution controls the backlight brightness in current Apple systems for quick, easy and accurate results. The resulting video LUT is significantly more accurate in white point and gray balance than with competing technologies.

While the best way to approach these results required many iterations of adjusting controls and testing, the hard work is now completed automatically. The user simply selects the preferred color temperature and brightness. basICColor display then controls the Apple monitor for perfect results.
